Rodeo Facts
In
rodeo, contestants compete against each other in events that exhibit
skills with animals.
- Seven events are
standard at most rodeos, including bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling,
calf roping, team roping, saddle bronc riding, cowgirls barrel racing
and bull riding.
- There are more
than 5,000 rodeos in the United States and Canada every year.
- In the summer,
50 to 100 rodeos may be scheduled across the country on the same week.
- Rodeo contestants
may travel, usually by car, anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 miles a
year.
- A top-ranked bucking
horse or bull can be worth up to six figures.
- In scoring events,
both animal and rider are equally important. A possible 100 points are
split 50-50 between how well the contestant rides and how well the bronc
or bull bucks.
